Hirst on target for yet another billiards title

Mark Hirst Bradford Billiards Championship makes the final again

Reigning champion Mark Hirst again qualified for the final of the Bradford Billiards Championship, at the round robin day held at Q Gardens.

In this season’s final he will meet Richard Bowes who had 4 wins from his 6 games. Mark won all his 6 games but Richard’s place was always in doubt.

Trevor Kershaw, having beaten Richard earlier in the day, played out a rare tie with Mick Cockcroft, which cost him a final place.

Had Mick won the tie he would also have been close as Richard Bowes had to make a very late break of 71 to beat him by just 4. Paul Devitt was also in with a chance, until losing his final game against Stephen Kershaw.

With games played over 45 minutes there were plenty of close finishes, even for last placed Bill Oates, whose only defeats by more than 30 were against the two finalists, Mark Hirst allowing him only about half a dozen visits with breaks of 191, 107, 60 and 50 in accumulating the day’s highest score of 418.

The date and venue of the final will be announced in due course
