The final of the 2014 Bob Bell competition ran from the conservative league was played on Wed 23rd April at Eccleshill Victoria the home of many final events,
This years final was between Undercliffe Cricket club player Adam Tipper against another Undercliffe Monday games league player Peter Hamilton who was representing Pilky’s for this seasons Tuesdays conservative games league.
Two of the leagues best snooker tacticians going head to head was always going to be a very interesting game.
Frame one, A tense start from both players both with mutual respect for each others games and it was Hamilton who got off to the better start taking a early lead only for Tipper to come back fighting and edge in front, all to play for black remaining Tipper with a seven point advantage but Hamilton pots the black with the rest to force the re-spot.
Hamilton missed an attempted pot on the black playing a good cue ball to baulk cushion seemed a good shot to nothing only to watch the black come back down the table and left a very tricky shot along the baulk cushion, Tipper full committed himself to the pot but left it hanging over the green pocket for Hamilton to take a 1-0 lead. (55-48)
Frame two, again both players struggling to find their form Hamilton with a calm 22 break taking a mid-frame lead which he held onto to gain a 2-0 lead. (59-22)
Frame three, This time Tipper takes the initiative and finishes the frame in style making a superb 46 break from nothing and reduces Hamilton’s lead to 2-1. (56-2)
Frame four, Some great safety play and single ball pots from both players and with Tipper at the table another brilliant 40 contribution levels the match at the interval 2-2. (77-24)
What a superb game and equally matched at the mid-way stage…
Frame five, Hamilton once again using his superb tactical brain edging ahead with a 39 point lead with one red remaining and a foul on the pink by Tipper took Hamilton into the lead at 3-2. (66-24)
Frame six, Tension building for both players both giving it their best effort a close six frame Tipper with a 36 point lead with 35 remaining and Hamilton hardened battler not giving in pots the last red but misses a tricky pink to leave himself needed a few snookers, Tipper takes the frame to level once again and force a decider 3-3. (60-23)
Deciding seventh frame, Early in the frame both players with missed opportunity but Tipper then finds a 22 break to gain the advantage followed by another 20 contribution giving him a 40 point lead, Hamilton straight back with a 16 of his own to reduce his arrears by 24.
Tipper steps in and pots some great final pressure balls to put the frame and match out of reach and with it the 2014 Bob Bell title 4-3 (67-27)
A great effort from both players a very tough match and very evenly matched
Big thank you to Eccleshill Victoria cons for hosting this years event.
