Bradford’s billiards team opened the new Yorkshire Inter-District League season with a 5-2 defeat to Harrogate at Great Horton Cricket Club.

John McEachran of the host club opened up a lead of 40 but at the halfway stage there was little in it.

He pulled away again as the match wore on but Tom Halliday then made a telling break of 39 for Harrogate and eventually won 200-164.

An early break of 40 got Paul Devitt off to a good start and the Bradford player remained in front of opponent Stephen Crosland to the halfway stage.

But Crosland, a several-times Yorkshire champion, made a key break of 48 on the way to a 200-124 win for Harrogate.

The final game was a scrappy affair but a break of 35 early in the contest and an unfinished run of 39 at the end saw Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw (pictured) record a 200-109 victory over Tim Godolphin.

Bradford’s next match is away to Huddersfield’s second team on Sunday, November 10 at Mold Green Liberal Club.
