Right on Cue
Bradford No 1’s snooker side made a fantastic start to the defense of their Yorkshire Inter-District League crown.
They opened the Division One campaign with a comprehensive 5-1 victory against a very strong Castleford No 1 side at Undercliffe Cricket Club.
Wayne Cooper (pictured top) soon blew the cobwebs off any rustiness from the summer, making a frame-winning break of 82 against Daniel Womersley to take it 82-13.
The second frame was a much tighter affair and could have gone either way but it was Cooper who edged it 76-45 to give the hosts a two-frame lead.
This lead quickly became 3-0 as captain Kevin Firth made a rapid break of 46 to win his first frame 82-26.
But opponent Mikey Tomlinson made a superb break of 79 in reply to reduce the arrears, taking the frame 79-17.
Mark Slater (pictured right) has been in superb form for his league club, having recently made a brilliant personal-best
break of 143.
And he brought some of this form to the Bradford side, winning his two frames against Pete Fisher 64-40 and 61-9 to give his team an ideal start to the season.
Bradford are next in action on Sunday, November 3 when they travel to play a rearranged match against newly-promoted Ossett.
In Division Two, there was not such a happy opening for the Bradford No 2 side.
They made a disastrous start to the campaign with a crushing 6-0 defeat at home to Wakefield No 2.
