Bradford No 1 extended their Yorkshire Inter-District League lead at the top of Division One to 11 points with a 6-0 whitewash of second-placed Leeds at Undercliffe Cricket Club.

Wayne Cooper edged a cagey first frame 66-32 against Leeds captain Tony Massey but found his form in the second with breaks of 36 and 87 to take it 123-4.

Bradford skipper Kevin Firth needed a 57 clearance to beat Lewis Gillan 64-44 and a 43 break in the second frame (76-36) ensured a 4-0 lead for the hosts.

Bradford’s billiards team crashed to a 7-0 defeat against rampant hosts Huddersfield No 1 in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

Matthew Peaker was soon into his stride with a break of 74 against John McEachran, and an unfinished break of 44 took him to a 200-78 victory over the Bradford player.

Steve Wilman, deputising for the unavailable Stephen Kershaw, kept close to Steve Whiteley in the early stages but a break of 39 pulled the Huddersfield man clear and, despite a run of 34, Wilman fell short by 200-146.

It was a good weekend for Bradford’s two snooker sides in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

The No 2 team climbed closer to the summit of Division Two with a 4-2 victory over second-placed Huddersfield.

Bradford champion Gareth Green gave the visitors the perfect start, making breaks of 49 and 53 to take both frames against Martyn Beck.

Gareth Green’s run of Bradford titles at an end

 

John WellhamThe Bradford Snooker Championship is wide open after defending champion Gareth Green crashed out in the second round to John Wellham in a repeat of last season’s final.

Wellham (Allerton Cons) was beaten comfortably in the 2013 showpiece event but admits nerves got the better of him on the night.

He becomes the first player to defeat Green in the competition since 2008, a period which has seen the Harold Club player dominate the field and earn four consecutive Bradford titles.
