HOLDER Wayne Cooper failed to make it through the qualifying stages of the Yorkshire Snooker Championship at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.
However, two players from Bradford did advance to the quarter-finals – Cooper’s representative team-mate Lewis Walsh and surprise package Daniel Farmer.
Cooper was knocked out 3-1 by Castleford opponent Mikey Tomlinson in the last 16, while Walsh had a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Josh Walker.
Farmer, who plays for Haworth Cons in the Conservative League, fully deserved his place after wins against Joe Markie (3-1), Neil Connor (3-0) and Paul Lawson 3-2.

BRADFORD’S billiards team ended a run of poor results in the Yorkshire Inter-District League with victory against the leaders.
But the district’s two snooker sides, heading their respective divisions, came unstuck away from home.
Huddersfield No 1 still lead the billiards table by seven points from Harrogate, but found a determined Bradford side in no mood to roll over, Stephen Kershaw and his side gaining a 4-3 away victory.
Huddersfield’s Matthew Peaker produced breaks of 51 and 49 to lead Paul Devitt 199-44 before back-to-back runs of 29 and and 40 from Devitt added some respectability to the 200-113 scoreline and provided much-needed encouragement for the team.

Hi Guys
Herewith this week’s update.
Please remember next weeks Delegates Meeting at Clayton Rugby Club. Please give any new ideas for next season to your League Delegate to bring to the meeting so that I can get them down in writing instead of them just being verbal and not brought through to the AGM. I have had a couple up to press and these will be brought to the meeting next week and discussed. This way your delegate can then bring these suggestions and discussions to the players and discuss them further, maybe even coming up with improved suggestions from these ideas. Keep talking guys……..
Cheers
Paul

DEFENDING champion Mark Hirst was one of several notable absentees at the Bradford Billiards Championship qualifiers at Cue Gardens, which leaves the competition wide open.
With only seven entries, the format of the event has been altered, and instead of group stages, full round-robin matches over two sessions was agreed by all the players, with the top two going through to contest the final at a later date.
The first session produced some very close games and some shock results.
The first of these came early on, when first-time entrant Gareth Kershaw pulled off a 170-159 victory over Princeville team-mate James Butcher, who was himself to feature in two other close finishes on the day.
The first of these was the biggest upset of the day, when, after trailing Bradford team captain Stephen Kershaw for almost the full hour, he got in front for the first time with only minutes to go and then added a break of 21 to keep his opponent away from the table at a crucial stage.
He then produced the first tied game of the tournament against another member of the Bradford team, Paul Devitt, when he was again at the table at the vital moment, to secure the three points necessary to bring the scores level at the bell.
