Wayne Cooper made an 87 break in helping Bradford No 1 beat Huddersfield

BRADFORD’S snooker teams head into the Christmas period full of festive cheer, with both sides top of their respective divisions in the Yorkshire Inter-District League following good wins.

Defending Division One champions Bradford No1 opened up a six-point lead at the top with a 4-2 victory over Huddersfield at Undercliffe Cricket Club. Wayne Cooper started well with breaks of 36 and 27, taking the first frame 72-33 against Michael Whaley, which was soon followed up with an 87 break in the next.

Kevin Firth made a rapid break of 34 to put the home side 3-0 up but opponent Jack Ellis-Pownall, who had barely been to the table, knocked in an impressive 57 break to pull a frame back. Lewis Walsh had a solid first frame, making a break of 38 against Chris Thorpe, but the visitors took the final frame with Thorpe winning 81-25.

South Bradford Games League Halfway-House & Revised Handicaps

SOUTHLGEHi Guys

The site has been updated with registrations for the Team Knockouts, which start tonight. These include the “Revised Handicaps” for new players which come into force for the first rounds of these Team Knockouts, will come into force after the current round of individual and pairs knockouts and now apply to League Fixtures as we are the halfway stage.

I have also attached the full list of Revised Handicaps, as not all these players are registered for the Team Knockouts.

Gareth Green, who has won the Eric Hodgkinson Bradford Snooker Handicap Trophy to become the first player in Bradford to win all of the city’s major snooker titles

Gareth Green has added the Eric Hodgkinson Bradford Snooker Handicap Trophy to his already impressive list of achievements after a 3-1 victory against Josh Walker in the final at Great Horton Conservative Club.

The Harold Club player, playing off minus 47, had to concede 40 points per frame to Yorkshire Handicap champion Walker, making the victory even more impressive.

The first frame was tight, as you would expect, and, trailing by 21 points, Green cleared the last four colours to win by a point.

It looked good in frame two for Green with an early run of 35, but Walker found his form and made a 32 break of his own to level the match.

A 39 break gave Green victory in frame three, and the title was wrapped up with consistent 20-plus breaks in the last frame, meaning Green is now the only player to have won all Bradford’s major trophies, having already won the Bradford singles title four times and the pairs with brother Anthony three times.

South Bradford Games League Weekly Update

SOUTHLGEHi Guys

Halfway in the current league season and here are the halfway updates. There is just one Billiard/Domino fixture to be fulfilled before the end of January but other than that alls well.

Please remember the closing dates for the Individual/Pairs knockouts and get these matches played and results into me asap.

South Bradford Games League Snooker and Billiards Team Knockout

SOUTHLGEHi Guys

Herewith the draws for the Snooker and Billiards Team Knockout 1st Rounds. These take place over the next 2 weeks (Tuesday & Wednesday) and then obviously we break for Christmas.

Please remember the next Delegates Meeting is on Thursday 17th December at Clayton Conservative Club (8 pm), so if you can bring your results sheets for these knockouts with you then we can make the draws for the next rounds at the meeting.

If I don’t see any of you beforehand please can I wish you on behalf of myself and the league, a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year……..
