Paul Devitt edges through to keep Bradford in fight

Paul Devitt,, won a dour battle against Steve Crosland to take Bradford over the line in their billiards clash with Yorkshire Inter-District League leaders Harrogate

BRADFORD’S billiards team picked up a 7-5 win at Great Horton Conservative Club in the Yorkshire Inter-District League as they beat leaders Harrogate to remain in contention for the title.

Steve Wilman got Bradford off to a great start, knocking in breaks of 43 and 51 to defeat Harrogate captain Tim Godolphin 200-81 and take the hosts into a 3-0 lead.

The second game looked like it might even things up as Jon Marwood took an early lead for Harrogate with an effort of 33 and gave Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw few opportunities to respond.

Yet a late break of 31 from the home man got him over 100 to secure a single point and keep Bradford in front at 4-3.

South Bradford Games League Weekly Update

Hi Guys
Herewith updates from Week 22.

There are only a handful of Knockout matches left to play but could you please remind your players to send me a text to let me know who has won these matches. There have been quite a few results haven’t had through and have had to chase these up with the delegates.

Mark Slater helps leaders Bradford to victory

Gareth Green only conceded 20 points in beating Matt Drury

BRADFORD’S No 1 snooker side have moved four points clear at the top of Division One in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

Their sixth consecutive victory was by a solid if unspectacular 5-1 over defending champions Castleford No 1 at Undercliffe Cricket Club.

Gareth Green was consistent in his scoring and saw out both frames against Matt Drury 71-13 and 79-7.

Josh Walker also won both frames but needed late clearances against highly-rated 14-year-old Joe Fenton, who recently won the Yorkshire under-16 title as well as coming runner-up in the under-19s.

Fenton made a 36 break in the first frame, Walker clearing with 22 for a 64-53 win, and although getting away with a 32 break in the next, Fenton fought back and looked the likely winner until Walker again cleared the last few colours to take it 61-43.
